About Us
VHK STEM course is an extracurricular activity for the high school students in the Old Town Educational College of Tallinn which is available to students studying in the engineering field. The program is divided into 4 groups where each team works on one Greenpower car. In a team, each member has their own responsibilities – from working on the car's design and mechanics to marketing and branding.
What is STEM?
STEM is an acronym for a study method which combines Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The objective of the program is to give students the ability to exercise theory learnt in a classroom and apply it in real life situations. A specialty of VHK STEM is that the students are put into a group environment which gives them the means to gain experience on how to coordinate workflow and run an enterprise of their own.

Greenpower Benelux Belgium Competition 2026
It was once again a busy school year, capped off by two STEAM formula teams traveling to Belgium for the Greenpower Benelux competition. Preparing for the competition took the teams a whole year and a great deal of effort building, optimizing, and seeking sponsors to get the cars ready and onto the track. Hours were also spent in the garage outside of class time, and various companies such as Norcar BSB, Auto 100, City Bike, and Tabasalu kart track were contacted to find supporters. It was nearly a week-long trip, with three days of driving there and three days back by minibus and trailer. Since there were few people with the appropriate driver's licenses, only one 8-seat vehicle could be used for travel, meaning some had to go and some had to come back by plane. The route went through Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, and on the way back briefly through the Netherlands as well, and of course Belgium aswell. Those flying there were picked up from Brussels Airport, and after the competition the another group headed to Tallinn via the same airport. The competition itself took place on May 24, 2026, at the Zolder racing circuit, with teams Vurts (Karl Marius Lensment, Sander Nõmm, Sebastian Peterson, Tristan Reedik Metspalu) and BeeGreen (Lizett Vahter, Hendrik Hansson, Grete Närep, Brigita Tamm, Joonas Rebane, Rico Tiks) competing for VHK. Several technical mishaps occurred, but a lot was learned from the experience, motivation is high, and there's quite a bit to improve on for next year. Both teams managed to perform quite well in one of their two runs, but the weak link turned out to be the steering mechanism, which broke in a turn for one reason or another on both occasions. Among 61 teams, BeeGreen achieved 19th place in the first run and Vurts 13th place in the second run. Overall, it was a successful trip, a great journey, and a good note to end the season on!
